Build Your Own Guitar

The Music King is selling kits to build your own guitar. They have Strats, Telecasters, PRS, SG, but unfortunately no Flying Vs. This looks like a pretty fun little project. The quality is probably horrible and if I built it myself it would be completely screwed up.  But for those of you with some DIY skills, check these out.

Have you ever looked at a

Have you ever looked at a guitar and wondered, "How do they make that?" Or thought to yourself, "I bet that I could build my own guitar," but never actually tried it? I have built several electric guitars over the years and through trial and error have learned many helpful tips that anyone who might want to tackle this sort of project needs to know before starting out. This kind of thing does require some 220-701 wood working skill and also requires some specific tools as well but not all the fancy stuff that a guitar manufacture has. Building an electric guitar is time consuming 220-702 and requires the completion of several steps before your project gets finished but be patient and you'll be happy with the results. I tend to go into detail so as not skip any steps or tips you need along the way, and use pics from other projects that I did as well so you can 350-001 get more that on reference. If you set out to make a guitar you'll find that it takes quite a bit of time so you'll have time enough to go back and read other info if you just want to skim through the first go round. So I hope this helps all the future guitar builders out there!

Build Your Own Guitar - Saga Kits

jaymesuk's picture

Just taken receipt of my 2nd Build Your Own Kit. I went for the LP Style Kit http://www.themusicking.co.uk/build-your-own-electric-guitar-kit-lp-style-right-or-left-handed

The Kits seemed to have gone up in price by about £10 since my last kit, but The Music King told me that these are the real deal Saga kits!

They now come in a colour box with full instructions and all the parts are nicely packaged, whereas my last kit came in a plain white box with no instructions and some of the screws had fallen out - so well worth the extra £10.

Still have no idea on what colour to finish it with - but red is looking the favourite at the moment. I'll post pictures when it's finally finished!
