Effects Order

When I record using effects, there's no particular order for the chain, but some things do work better than others. It all depends which effects I'm using.

Usually, the high-gain devices go at the beginning, modulation devices go at the end of the chain. I usually will put the compressor at the end of the chain. But it also depends on how much compression your using, and how much gain you're using. I normally to put distortion first, then compression. This way, you can compress the harmonics coming off the distortion pedal. For bass, this is even more important, since the main reason you're using compression is to even out your volume.

Ultimately, listen to what your ears tell you. If the order you normally use is working for you, with a decent sound and acceptable noise ratio, then stick with that.
