Doug Rowell who is a sculptor/wood carver makes hand carved guitars. He uses strats, les pauls, telecasters among others to carve into unique and very cool looking axes.

He has designs like dragons, skulls, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, and Harley Davidson.

I was really surprised to see that they were quite affordable. On his pricing page he says: "The minimum price is $500 for the simplest designs. Most will run $750 - $850 plus finish." I'm assuming you supply the guitar, he carves it for $500 to $850?

That's still not bad for a custom hand carved guitar. I really like the dragon slayer model. I wonder if he's ever done any Flying V's?
