The PreSonus Inspire 1394 is another portable recording solution. Everyone and their brother seems to have a portable interface now. Long gone are the days when you need a desktop, everything can be done on your laptop now.

The Inpsire 1394 has microphone, instrument, keyboard and phono (turntable) inputs as well as a complete suite of recording software included.

PreSonus boasts that each member of the band can have an Inspire 1394 for personal recording, and then later they can daisy-chain up to four units together.

The PreSonus Inspire 1394 features:

  • Firewire 24 bit audio interface
  • 4 simultaneous recording channels
  • Two microphone/instrument inputs
  • Speaker and headphone outputs
  • Software mixer/control panel
  • Powered by Firewire or externally
  • Windows and Mac compatible
  • Includes Cubase LE
  • Includes PreSonus ProPak software suite

PreSonus says the Inspire 1394 will work with virtually all popular recording software including Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar, Cakewalk, Logic, Logic Express, Digital Performer and many others. Pro Tools? Why can't they list out the "many others?"

The PreSonus Inspire 1394 lists for around $199. As usual, shop around.
