Samson C01U USB Condenser MicrophoneSamson has created the worlds first studio quality USB condenser microphone, it is called the Samson C01U. The Samson C01U is a large diaphragm hypercardioid condenser microphone with a built in pre-amp, analaog-to-digitial converter and a USB cable. What a great idea! The Samson C01U comes standard with:
Samson lists the C01U at $234.99, but in reality you should have no problem finding it for around $80. And for $39.95 you can get the optional shock mount. I think the 10 foot cable seems a little short tho. The C01U doesn't need any drivers, it's plug and play. When you plug it in, it will load generic device drivers and should work just fine. Should work. Samson's website has an optional C01U SoftPre Applet which is a more advanced control panel for the C01U. It allows you to control the pre-amp, volume, low cut filter, and a phase switch. I was all excited to try the Samson C01U until I read, you can't use this mic with Pro Tools and may have problems using Logic. Ugh. Apparently, this mic sounds great for under a hundred dollars. Although, I'll never know now. Unless, I decide to use it with n-Track Studio or GarageBand. I think the Samson C01U would be a great mic for people using something other than Pro Tools or Logic who are new to recording and need something easy to use.
