Recording Guitar

Chordbook

As a songwriter, I often get stuck on one particular chord. Sometimes I'll struggle forever trying to find what I am looking for. I found this cool site called Chordbook which allows you to pick a key and you can select from all of the different chords in that key. Such as maj, min, aug, sus, 7, 11, etc. Such a great resource.

The other cool thing is it has a scales area. You can select a key and then pick your scale and it will show you all of the notes as well as a description of the scale. This is great for when you are trying to write a killer solo part, but you've run out of ideas.

Chordbook also includes a page for alternate tunings. Wicked awesome. You can play each one to hear what it sounds like.

The site also allows you play all of the chords, scales and tunings so you can hear what they sound like. Pretty nifty little site if you are a guitarist, lots of great help at chordbook.com. Check it out.

Recording Guitar in Garage Band

Todd Fugere's picture

With a drumbeat, a bass and a guitar one can record simple songs in Apple's Garageband within minutes. I used Presonus Firebox directly as audio IN. Record additional overdubs to make the sound fuller and it's a good start for a song idea. (1 x Bass, 2 X Guitar). The GB footage is actual - but it was too dark to record video - so i just used some home studio clips so you get the idea.

Line 6 Bass Pod

The Line 6 Bass Pod was to my bass recordings as light is to driving at night. Meaning you'll hit a lot of trees without the Line 6 Bass Pod...

I recently purchased a bass guitar. I really wanted to have bass on my recordings that I was producing. Bass recorded directly sounded ok, but I needed something more. I didn't have a bass amp, nor did I want to buy one. I went to a few music stores and tryed out the Bass Pod by Line 6.

I immediately fell in love with it. Suddenly, I had full control of my bass sound. The Line 6 Bass Pod gave me great tone while playing live or in the studio. It has over 50 stompbox, studio, and synth effects, and over 28 classic and modern amp models. The Bass Pod has everything you'll need to create a glorious bass tone.  Read More »
